Topic: Using pedals while soloing in C6 |

| To all the C6 pickers out there, a recent question regarding Mr. Emmons asked "I think I remember you saying in another thread awhile ago that you don't use the pedals when you single note solo on the C6th neck. I asume you meant you don't use them the way single note soloing is often done on the E9th neck. But do you ever engage a pedal or two on your C neck to create different pockets to single note solo from? If you do, would you please share some of these ideas with us". Is this the way most "jazzers" or "single noters" approach solos? How do you approach soling, with or without pedals? |

| I have four knees for C6th (soon to be five), and I know my pockets pretty well in four other combinations than open. I don't use pedals to make licks a la E9th very often, rather I use them to find different pairs of notes and voicings. When I'm soloing I try not to think too technically, but I do practice exercises with pedals down for different combinations. Play a lick open, then play the same lick with pedals down. Or, trade fours with yourself, four bars open, four bars with a pedal combination. |

Buddy rarely uses pedals on single note C6 solos. Other players like Doug Jernigan do. It's basically a stylistic thing. I find that when I don't use pedals I have a hard time sounding like Emmons and when I do I have a hard time sounding like Jernigan.

I'm with Rick here.I started out on the 6-string lapsteel at the age of 6 and the way I learned to play that is the same way that I use the C6th....and even the E9th.I always say that everybody should create their own style.
Creating a style might be the thing to make you stand out from the rest.
