I haven't played a show since June due to Covid. I thought I'd write a song, experiment with some recording techniques, and try to learn something.

Loved it Rick! My hats off to you on this one. Not many people understand what it takes to put something together like this. Playing multiple instruments, producing, mixing, video and editing. You should be proud. I have just started going down this rabbit hole, so I understand the talent, experience and time it takes. |

Great song and performance Rick.
May I ask what DAW and drum programs you're using? That's a real solid mix.
Have you quit using Band-in-a-Box? _________________ Remembering Harold Fogle (1945-1999) Pedal Steel Player

Thank you Jim. It's a combination of tools. DAW is Studio One. Using Band In A Box, EZ Drums, EZ Keys, etc... Some of the parts are BIAB generated MIDI, then MIDI edited in the DAW, then powered by EZ Keys, etc...Sometimes I can get it to work and other times the more I do the worse it gets. As you know, its not as simple as some would think, and not as difficult as others think it is. It is fun though.

Thank you Justin! That "rabbit hole" can seem pretty intense, but once you get into it and it starts working, it's really fun. There's a lot of steps involved, but it will work. As you proceed, don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I'm in the learning curve too.

For anyone that's interested in knowing, the steel is recorded direct. The signal chain is volume pedal > Warm Audio 73 preamp > Presonus interface.
Inside the DAW, I insert the Positive Grid BIAS Amp 2 amp simulator on the steel track, and add some reverb. Thanks to my buddies Tommy Detamore and Bill Terry for pointing me to the BIAS Amp 2.
The guitar is a 1974 Emmons D-10 push pull.

Nice work Rick! Sounds like you've made friends with that P/P as well? Really a great job... What video editor are you using? _________________ Lost Pines Studio

Bill,
I used Movavi for the final composition in conjunction with the DAW. If you want details, feel free to call or text. Yes, I'm loving the P/P.

I'm glad you noticed that. I've been looking for a reason to fire him.

Great job Rick! I'm glad to see more people doing the one man band thing. So many talented people I'm discovering everyday. It takes quite a bit longer to do than the Nashville A team playing but can yield the same result with talent and good ears. |

I got a chuckle out of seeing your virtual drums in your daw getting it’s own window in your split screen!
I’ve not met you but have some insight into your sense of humor after watching a video you posted some years back on cleaning your Emmons push pull with a hose. |

Yes. That was the EZ Drummer virtual instrument. I'm not a drummer, so I have to do it that way. Glad you enjoyed the steel cleaning video.

Dang, Rick. That's a mighty fine Red Stegall impersonation.
However, it looks like you were really beside yourself on that session...

You got it Rick! Great performance, arrangement and mix! That's a lot of work. I've done a lot of engineering and playing simultaneously and it's like a one legged man running in a track meet. 2 full time jobs at once. Good work Rick! |

Thanks for the compliments. Yes, it does get kind of busy at times. I do fairly well unless someone interrupts me and I lose concentration... then I often take several steps back. I just do it for fun.
