I don't know if it's the same fellow or not but Wade Thomas in Burlington, NC builds guitar cases. Very nice. He might have built guitars at one time. |

It's probably Barry Thomas.
Coincidentally, I just a got Thomas steel and love it.
Searching the forum gave limited information.
I'd be interested if any forum members have any comments about the guitar or builder.

I don't know much about Thomas steel guitars but the last I heard was that he moved out of California. That was a few years ago. There was a player in Vallejo named Vic Chaney that played one and loved it. Haven't seen Vic Chaney on the Forum for a few years. Anyone know what happened to him?

I had a Thomas D-10 for several years that was a great guitar. Another one I probably shouldn't have sold, but you know how that goes. If I could find a Thomas U-12 I would buy it. I talked to him a couple of years ago & he was talking about building guitars again, but I think he said he sold all his equipment after his divorce. Nice guy & the guitar I had was very well built. |

I seem to recall he also made an excellent case. Was it an "Anniversary" case? |

I visited Barry Thomas some years back. He does not build steel guitars to earn a living. He does it for a hobby.
Barry is a multimillionairre, and can afford the very best equipment, When I visited him, he designed a aluminum part on his computer, and it was automatically cut and polished by some sort of machine connected to the computer.
Since Barry can eaaily afford to use the finest tools and materials, and he does this for love rather than money, it stand ro reason that he builds a very good instrument, however I've not played one so I can't condirm that.

I have two. One is a D10 and a SD10. In two years I have broke one string and this was my fault. Stays in tune and has a great tone. Only down side is they are heavy. Barry told me these will last me a life time plus some. I just got a Desert Rose S10 to drag around to lessons and jams until I get better. If you can find one. Buy one. If Barry starts building again I will be in line for a custom SD10. Hey Barry let's get to building.
