A friend of mine may be selling some lap steels, and I've agreed to help him.
I'm not well versed in models, years and the like, so is there someone or someplace that could help me determine a fair market value for his steels? Thanks.

the normal places of ebay and reverb sold units. sometimes tho the prices are all over the map but sold category will tell what they actually sold for.

| Also, see if your library has a copy of the Vintage Guitar Price Guide. I usually just do what Michael mentioned, look at the sold items on those two websites. Ebay only goes back about three months though and you can't always tell what the "best offer" actual sale price was on either site. |

bill, i believe if you look only at sold category it tells you that price. vintage price guide due to covid is not really proper at this time, and i have them back to 1996. the new 21 guide stops in july since that is the last time people were reporting sales. things have changed dramatically in every sphere.

Thanks, gents.
As a matter of fact, my buddy was telling me that he repeats that mantra to people: it's the selling price - not the asking price that counts.
I'm not familiar with that price guide, but other leads are welcome.

Keep in mind that selling locally can save a lot of fees and headaches. Local prices can vary somewhat from online prices, depending on how big your local market is and how much local demand there is.
Local prices are usually lower, but if you have something special that someone local happens to really want, you can sometimes get more. I think most of us would pay a bit more for our personal "holy grail" if it turned up on our local Craigslist.
