I think what you’re looking for is an Asher lap steel. You can get a pretty expensive one made in CA or the Electro Jr, a solid body import for considerably less. Both are excellent instruments.

Thanks Kevin. I had a nice Koa Electro Hawaiin that I sold a while back. Wouldn’t mind another one but the Ben Harper model is setup like a Les Paul for lap style. Really want one of those.

A Guitar Center story - still p*sses me off thinking about.

I found a Ben Harper model online at Guitar Center Nashville about four years ago. $1500 in excellent condition. I had to find my reading glasses to make sure I had read that correctly.

I called the store and talked to a guy who told me that it had been brought in on trade by a famous Nashville musician whose name I would know and his family bought a lot of guitars at that store but he wouldn't divulge who it was. It was priced low because the sales guy said that they had a difficult time selling high end lap steels in that store so they just wanted to move it out.

I told the guy I wanted it, and that I would go online to do the credit card purchase and fill out the shipping info, etc.

What this idiot didn't do is take the guitar off the sales floor and when I didn't receive a confirmation the following day I called him.

It turns out someone else called in the next day and another guy sold it to that customer. And according to him it had already been packed and picked up by UPS.

Here's the topper - they did in fact process my credit card, and after I reamed this guy out over the phone and it took everything in my power not to resort to f-bombs, the buffoon had the audacity to ask me if I wanted to use the $1500 + sales tax on credit toward other purchases?

Un-freaking-believable. Shocked
