What are some early recordings featuring fuzz pedal steel? I’m specifically looking for songs from the early 1960’s to the late 1970’s. I have already heard stuff like “Christine’s Tune” by The Flying Burrito Brothers, “Silver Threads & Golden Needles” by Linda Ronstadt, “Honky Tonk Woman” by Ricky Nelson, etc., so please let me know all of the songs you can think of! Thanks everybody!

It was Grady Martin on guitar. The studio limiter had a loose or broken tube. They decided to use that sound for the cut.

I was at a steel guitar show and the singer was going to do that Marty Robbins song.
I saw the pedal steel player take a stomp box from his pac-a-seat, plug it in and he sounded just like the record.
I went up afterwards and asked him what he was using and he showed me the "Rat" distortion unit.
It ready did the trick! Very Happy

I think that these cuts all have fuzzed out pedal steel tones - if I'm mistaken, they are still a fun and interesting listen.

Not a "early recording", but this is a short, funky E9 tune I put together a while back. The "fuzz" is amp overdrive (Quilter Steelaire). Video and tablature.

Here's a related thread from last year that might be helpful, with some links to examples and some discussion of the history of fuzz-tone steel.

Buddy Cage! "Death and Destruction" off the Gypsy Cowboy album. One of many many great tunes with Buddy and Boss Tone.
