I am working on using a finger pick on my right hand index finger . I lost the first 1/2 joint in a work accident when I was 18 . I have always finger picked with my middle and ring fingers . So for me its thumb , middle and ring finger . For everyone else its thumb index and middle fingers . I feel this slight disability slows me down as far as speed picking .So I am working on training myself to try and utilize my index finger to gain what I can. Rolling Eyes

Dan, that's interesting. You know that guitar players use a flatpick and the middle and ring fingers with incredible speed. Johnny Hiland is wicked fast. I don't know how much of a changed hand angle you would need to use a short first digit. It may slow your other fingers. Good luck with your efforts.

When I play guitar I use a flat thin pick and metal finger picks on middle and ring fingers . Just trying a different to use the index finger . I watched some Joe Wright videos and he is using 3 finger picks . So I thought what the heck give it a try . Smile

Hey Dan,

I'm in the process of doing the same thing (training my index finger).
This past June I had hand surgery and the surgeon attached my ring finger tendon to my middle finger tendon. Now they both move at the same time (bummer).

I using my ring finger to dampen the string I pick with my middle finger...rather tricky.
You do what you gotta do!

Dan,

The tendons in my ring finger and little finger snapped due to an arthritis/bone-spur in my wrist. The fingers went limp...I couldn't move them.
Took 5 months after surgery and a lot of physical therapy before I could do much with my right hand.

I know a player that has trouble bending the index finger so he has used thumb, middle, ring for years ever since I've known him, probably 70's, 80's at least, so he's being doing it a long time.

He's as quick and slick as anyone I know. I wish you well integrating your injured index into the mix.
