I am fortunate enough to have purchased last summer one of Tommy Dodd's many Zumsteels that he acquired every year. Does anyone know if he had a favorite or preferred Copedant for all those 8x6 and 8x7 D-10s? or the 8x8 blue D-10 Infinity? I want to try and set up the guitar the way he may have had it. I would like to learn some slightly different set ups, and it seems like a good place to start. This one has 8x6. And did he use high D or high G on the c6th neck?
Of course at this time, all of our hearts are heavy as we remember him and we pray for his family and loved ones.

Tommy pretty much used a stock set up (Emmons). On some guitars, he had an extra knee on the left that would raise the 5th, 1-1/2 tones.
I think his C6 was pretty standard.
I know that a couple of times, he played my steel at shows (because as he said, "why unpack mine if yours is already set up, hehe) and had no problems. I did see him detune my 9th string on E9, because he did not like it on the same lever with the 2nd string lower.
I played his steel on a couple of shows (don't remember which steel) and had no trouble adapting except it was 1" taller than mine.
Tommy did like to experiment and that was why he was such a great, but highly underrated, player.
I miss that old guy. _________________ AUTHORIZED George L's, Goodrich, Telonics and Peavey Dealer: I have 2 steels and several amps.
