Several weeks ago I posted a question on the Forum asking about pickups for my Carter Pro. Several of you were gracious enough to share your experience on the Forum as well as Private Messages.
As a result, I contacted Bill Lawrence Pickups by phone and got almost immediate telephone calls and text messages from Becky and Shannon - superb service. After those conversations I ordered a 710 Wide pickup to replace the (original I think) C6 pickup. I ordered one pickup initially - kind of a test. $110 free shipping.
Pickup arrived via USPS about 5 days after the order. Well padded, no damage.
My tech guy had to file / remove about 1/8" off each end of the mounting plate to fit the pickup in the well. No problem, took about 5 minutes.
The finished installation took him about an hour-and-a-half including removing / replacing all the strings, resizing the mounting plate and soldering the wiring - the soldering was perhaps the most 'fiddly' part due to the limited access to the wiring terminal under all the control rods. He charged me $35 start to finish.
In my case, the new pickup was night and day better than the original. It's crisper with much better note separation and the response is immediate. I really noticed it with harmonics.
I'm very comfortable stating that the 710 is exactly what
I hoped it would be. I subsequently ordered a second which is now installed on the E9 - same positive result.
As a consumer, I think it's nice to know that there still are companies out there that provide quality products at a fair price with real, personal service.
Again, thank you to those Forum members who gave me advice. It was well worth it.

Thanks for the report. Over the last few years there have been some reports of frustration with time and communication. Enough to cause a bit of apprehension. It makes me genuinely happy to read this positive review. |

I also had an excellent experience when I ordered my BL712 (12 string humbucker) online a few months back. Rather than just fill my order, Becky contacted me to verify I knew the BL712 was a wide mount and that my Mullen could handle it. I thought that was very nice. They processed my order fast and I received it in 2 or 3 days.
Sound wise I was looking for a bright sounding humbucker and it's everything I was looking for. Also, it had a 3 wire output so I was able to wire it up to a split coil switch so I have both a humbucker or single coil option. I was able to easily install the BL712 in place of the original Mullen single coil and use the existing Mullen wiring harness so I didn't have to rewire the jack or tone switch. Took me an afternoon but I work really slow and carefully
Anyway, I'd definitely recommend buying directly from them _________________ Hear my latest album, "Celestial" featuring a combination of Mullen SD12 and Synthesizers:

+10 on those BL710's. Great pickups, without a doubt. I've not heard or read anything negative about their pickups or customer service. It would be good if they were still making and selling the old BL705, but the 710 is great. _________________ Steeless. |

I ordered a BL712 from Wilde pickups about 3-4 weeks ago, it came last week, which was very quick considering I live in Scotland and with covid and xmas on the go, the delivery time was remarkable. I wasn't really expecting it until January.
Haven't fitted it yet but I expect it to be top notch if the reviews are anything to go by. _________________ "Nothing can ever be wrong about music" - D Allman

I love my BL712, what kind of pedal steel are you putting yours in? |
It'll be going into my MSA Legend S12. I'm currently in the process of converting this from Uni to Ext E9, so this and another pickup will open up new fields to explore.
I currently have a Tonealigner and a Truetone, I mostly use the Tonealigner which was wound by Jason Lollar, very nice tones. Looking forward to trying out the BL712 though, I watched Mickey Adams pup demo using a Legend and it sounded great. Also a fellow Brit, Ken Byng recommended the BL712 to me for use with lacquered steels. _________________ "Nothing can ever be wrong about music" - D Allman

Fantastic. I play extended D9 and my BL712 is a perfect fit _________________ Hear my latest album, "Celestial" featuring a combination of Mullen SD12 and Synthesizers:

Back in early 2009 when I bought a new Mullen SD-10, I didn't like the single pole Mullen pickup, so I bought an L710. It was an excellent pup. No hum, even at full volume pedal. Nice sound in the Mullen as well. I presently have a pickup that a friend is willing to sell to me. It has some odd and confusing labeling on it, but it is either a 710 or LxR-16 - Either way, I'll be installing it into my BMI SD-10. Wilde/Lawrence says on their web site that the LxR-16 output is quite similar to the BL705 - if so, that is a very good thing. _________________ Steeless. |

Every BL pickup I have ever installed into a PSG, they never fit without me having to file a bunch off the baseplate to fit. But once done, they are great, and my favorite pickups. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I listened to your version of Candyman, sounds great, one of my favourite Dead songs. I often play along with Dead toons, mostly from their Europe 72 tour, some exceptional versions from this tour. I saw them at the Bickershaw festival in 72 along with the New Riders and in London in 74 when they were using the wall of sound. _________________ "Nothing can ever be wrong about music" - D Allman
