Just saw a comment and response in a thread about this.
Been doing it for a few years. One example of a benefit, the 62 I have
on the right holds tuning better. Makes sense to me...
Merry Christmas,
Steve

I do that on 7-string New Yorkers; otherwise, you end up with a rather extreme break angle at the nut.

My new to me Gibson EH-100 7 was strung like that. I’ve since restrung, but decided to continue with that setup. Takes a bit of getting used to, but seems to be a very good idea. _________________ Current Tunings:

Yeah Allan, especially tuning in the middle of a set. It took a minute or three remembering to turn those outboards the right direction. It’s been years now so...
Cheers,

I've seen sidways string tree/guides too but I would leave that one alone, not screw anything else into headstock

I’ve often wondered why headstocks can’t be narrower to lessen the angle. That must put undue pressure on the nut. I know the strings aren’t being raised or lowered, but still..... |
