I dropped a knee lever set screw on this carpet. Goodbye, set screw.
On an unrelated note, does anyone have a good source for small set screws?

If you have a magnet, you might be able to find it. I get my small set screws at Ace Hardware or Home Depot. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . if you have an unmounted speaker, you could slide it across the carpet. Or (and this might be too obvious), if you have a metal detector... _________________ Mullen G2 SD10, Excel S10; Peavey 400s (LTD, Vegas, Session, and Renown); Nashville 112; etc... |

As soon as you buy a new one, you will accidentally find the old one. So.....at least you will have a spare |

Thanks, everybody. Hardware stores, of course!
I just always get a kick out of that carpet. Such a bad pattern for under a steel. Although it trains me never to drop a fingerpick... _________________ Marlen S12 pedal steel

I want to say that this tool has paid for itself with all the things that it has picked up but....that would be an awful lot of 5¢ things on the floor and I'm not that clumsy. Well maybe I am. Anyway, it's great to have.

My ACE hardware has a lot of fasteners, screws and such but nothing in small set screws. I have a big, secret tip for you:
** FASTENAL **
I love these guys. They have a website but also local stores that you can go pick up at. And they have literally anything you are looking for, inch and metric. A great source for set screws. Tools too. _________________ Guacamole Mafia - acoustic harmony duo

I am lucky there is a Fastenal and Ace Hardware in site of each other.
Our Ace Hardware is great for small quanities of small diameter set screws and Allen Hex Wrenches. I like to cut wrenches so they will fit in under carriage of a steel guitar.
FASTENAL is great for large quanities of screws, Round plastic and metal stock. I have ordered 7/67" Stainless Steel rod stock, To make EMMONS pull rods. It comes in 20 foot lengths. Be sure to have it cut in 3 foot lengths or the shipping is costly. |

Ace had exactly the right set screw when I needed one for a volume pedal. Pretty impressive selection at the local store. Love those guys. |

Thanks, George, for the Fastenal tip!
I found it with a flashlight! Also, I found out how horribly dirty that carpet is. So I learned a lot yesterday. _________________ Marlen S12 pedal steel

Been there, done that... Another way is to put a nylon stocking over your vacuum cleaner nozzle, it will pick up a small screw without sucking it in. Your wife may not approve, but it works. |
