Hi All - Has anyone compared sound wise, a Quilter Mach 2 with the new Quilter 202 as used in the TT. I dont see any love for the Mach 2, but plenty for the 202, are they that different

AJ, I have a Micropro Mach 2 12 combo and a Quilter 101 mini head. The combo has no love because it just can't dial in a decent tone even when I disconnect the internal speaker and use extension cabs. Using the same cabinet and the mini 101 head plus a boss reverb provides excellent tone. I have tried all sorts of outboard gear on the combo and on channel 2 with a line 6 pod HD bean I can get a fair tone but the difference is night and day compared to the little 101. Just my opinion and taste. The combo is fine for Telecaster.

Thanks for that Larry, I will stop trying to use it for PS, as you say its ok for a Tele. I did think that with all the different switch positions, I should be able to get something decent out of it but no, seems it really is a dud for PS. Any thought on the difference between the 101 and the 202 head, similar sound?

I use a Quilter Mach II HD stacked on top of the Quilter HD cabinet both loaded with the Celestion BN12-300 speaker with my pedal steel and love the tone I am getting. Could be the extra cabinet along with the type speakers but I get compliments from other steel players. I also have the Quilter 202 with the block dock and a Quilter Steelaire as well. I use the Mach II HD most often for double duty followed by the Steelaire then the 202. I think they all sound pretty good in their own way. I do like a 15" speaker best for pedal steel or the two 12 combo which seems to bring out the bass. I use the on board reverb and a Boss DD3 and always the Sarno Freeloader. Others may disagree, but it works for me.

Thanks Morton, I have a BN15-400 that I brought ages ago when they were on runout, other speakers, include a TC Furlong neo. I have tried them both but couldn't get a satisfactory sound. Could you please tell me what settings you used on the Quilter and also the DD3, I wonder if its the Freeloader that is making the difference. TIA Or maybe/probably its me thats the problem

I was going to swap the stock speaker for the HD but after trying extension cabs decided against it. I use TC Furlong 12 in an open back cab with the 101 and it's great. Not so with the Micropro mach2. I understand Mortons point. Maybe my steel pickup or my taste in tone is different. I can say that I spent considerable time trying settings and swapping speakers. I ran external eq through the effects loop as well as outboard amp simulator pedals. I still find the 2nd channel with a pod hd bean or even a little joyo American pedal the better choice for my taste. Hopefully Morton can shed some light on his settings. I was told the Surf was close to Fender. Not enough eq for my steels.

I play more non-pedal than pedal, but I'm using a MicroPro 8 or Micropro Mach 2 head -- with a separate cabinet / 12" Weber Michigan (EVM) l -- and it sounds good to my ears. Takes longer sometimes to dial in a sound, compared with Quilter 101R -- the 101R has fewer bells and whistles to use or avoid. Using a Boss '63 Fender Reverb pedal as well. Guitars are Fender Stringmaster and Sho-Bud 6139.

Some good info here, I have some of the gear that is being used by you guys so need to do some more experimentation, but it looks like I will get a 202. I had thought of buying a Nashville or LTD 400 but would really like to stay away from the weight, I'm old Sad . I also play quite a bit of guitar so the Quilter would probably work better for me that a Peavey

I have the Micropro Mach 2 12 HD combo, and use it for psg, non-pedal and armpit guitar. Works well for all.

I find for pedal steel, the best thing is to the use 2nd, clean channel. It pretty much won't break-up. If the single knob tone control isn't flexible enough, I add a Boss GE-7. Then I use the 1st "main" channel for guitar.

I recently bought the Quilter Overdrive 202 that I'm impressed with. Playing thru an Eminence EPS15-C I've been able to dial in my pedal steel and am experimenting with the lap steel's setting. I compared both the Overdrive 202 and Toneblock 202 literature/specs and decided the Overdrive was more functionable for my use and bought it. I think I made the right choice. Sounds awesome with the Eminence speaker.
