Just picked this beauty off Facebook Marketplace from someone practically giving it away. Amp sounds pretty good, but I feel the replacement bass speaker is really holding it back in the highs and mid range department.

I believe these came from the factory with JBL D130F's but were known to blow due to lack of power. Does anyone know what would be the closest replacement to factory original speaker? After Forum research, a lot of people have stated the Travis Toy TT-15 is quite close.

Also, has anyone had experience using a 2x12 cabinet with these amps or similar Peavey Steel amps? (NV400, Session 500, etc.)

The JBL in the LTD. 400 I purchased new in '77 blew in the early '80s. It sat in a closet for decades. A few years back I replaced it with a well broken in 1501-4 pulled from a NV 400. The amp never sounded better. Great amp.

Period correct drivers would be the made for Peavey JBL 4Ω K130 or the Spider Web mag 1501-4.

As mentioned, the more available later 1501-4 SB [short basket model] is a great speaker for these fine amps.

FWIW, there are many models of 15" Peavey Black Widows. You need to see the white tag by the terminals to verify the model#. Example below: but this is the square spoke Deep Throw 1501-4DT, not the round spoke Short Basket 1501-4 SB.

I have a LTD and I chose the TT15 speaker. I also have the original BW 1501 and an original Peavey JBL. The TT15 sounds good and is much lighter. The amp is still heavy even with the TT.

I'd try the Eminence EPS-15C,if you can find a good used one...I think they are out of production now...they are real light and sound really close to the M31(or D130,same
thing)that originally came in the amp...they come up for sale on the Forum occasionally.

Good luck

What Steve said.
I put a EPS 15 in my LTD 400.
It sounds great to my ears.
It was a new speaker and took some time to break it in but I’m very happy with it!

Super great info guys! I really appreciate it.

So is there a huge difference in the TT-15 and EPS 15? They look incredibly similar to me.
