Wow! A landmark. Will he use the money from this sale to make his descendants fabulously wealthy or establish some kind of charitable enterprise?
The answer is blowing in the wind. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

It may be some late game estate planning. If he died tomorrow and the IRS valued his catalog at 300 million, his estate would pay a 40% estate tax on 288.3 million dollars. If he sells it as a catalog, he will probably pay a 20% capital gains tax in the 300 and be able to lock the profit into various trusts to protect it. That said, it’s going to be very sad to hear all his songs exploited commercially by the new owners... _________________ John Macy

"hat said, it’s going to be very sad to hear all his songs exploited commercially by the new owners..."
I cringe everytime I hear that awful Rakuten commercial butchering Elton John's Rocket man.

If he writes a new song, and it sounds something like one of his old songs (and why wouldn't it?), do they get to sue him for plagiarizing his own self?

Everything's inflated
Like a tire on a car
Everything's inflated
Like a tire on a car
Well, the man came and took my Chevy back
I'm glad I hid my old guitar

smart move by BD. Sell HIGH before they are worth nothing.
How many of the new generations who journey thru life on an IPHONE even know who BD is ? THEY are the ones who will be deciding which music is good or not good in the upcoming years.
Smart move by BD, he gets the cash NOW and he can still brag that he wrote those 600 + songs. Call it advance royalties ! _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,

Good news: Universal cannot lease use of Dylan’s own recordings of the songs without his permission. So we won’t be hearing those classic recordings in McDonalds or Walmart commercials, unless old Bob allows it.
Quote: |
The sale gives Universal the right, in perpetuity, to lease use of Dylan’s compositions to advertisers and movie, television or video game producers, or anyone who thinks his words and melodies could enhance their product.â€
Despite the sale, Dylan does not lose total control over his work... The Universal deal does not include rights to Dylan’s own recordings of his material, so if Universal is approached to use Dylan’s recording of “Lay Lady Lay,†for example, that would have to be cleared by the artist. |
