I have an Artisan Lap that is my experimental have fun get crazy guitar. I converted it to a 22.5 scale with a Georgeboards kit.

I just bought a strat sized humbucker (15k) and plan to split it with a push pull pot. Do I need both the tone and volume to be 250k or 500k Or do I need a 250k volume and 500k tone or vice versa? Which one should be the push-pull pot? What cap .015uf vs .022uf vs .047uf.

Since I'm coil splitting I'm looking for the widest 'musical' range of tone I can get. Rather than getting one of everything and try it out I'm looking for suggestions on a starting point.

I would suggest coil splitting with a mini toggle switch rather than push pull pots. There may be clearance issues with the extra height of the push pull. Try it with the existing 250K pots first and only go to a 500k volume pot if you feel it is lacking treble.

Since you want the widest range of tone, I’d say use a 500K tone pot and a 47 nF capacitor. Likewise, 500K for the volume. If you want to squeeze out a little more highs, use a no load pot for the tone.

The single coil may be shrill, but turn the tone down a bit, and you should be fine.

you can put a 250k resistor in parallel on the single coil to ground so that when its selected it will cut the pot to around 250K and it wont be so shrill. wire it on the switch part of the push pull.

John I like your suggestion. I'm going with 500k pots and using a resistor. I'm taking Jeff's suggestion on using a mini toggle as well. I found a great website that explained in depth just about every wiring possibility including using resistors. I think it would be a great reference for just about any type of guitar wiring.

The Artisan/Rogue will never replace a decent lap steel but it's a bargain as a platform to do mods and try out ideas.

Here is my next platform to do some mods on. My Hudson Champ style clone I built.

Looks real nice. Can you explain how you achieved the finish?

A massive amount of sanding with 120 then 220 then 400. Three coats of water based lacquer then more sanding. More lacquer then buffed and buffed and buffed. No clear coat. I was going for a more vintage finish.

I need to apply some Carnauba to it, more as a protectant than for the gloss.
