Thanks for posting that Ricky, I’ve been looking for that lead ride, but never knew who’s version it was, I was told about it. |

OH you're welcome Larry and Shorty. Here's something most don't know. That intro and solo John Hughey recorded on the Conway version was "Double Tracked"> meaning John recorded it on one track; then recorded it exactly again on another track and blended together by the engineer. That is why it sounds SO HUGE. I of course; a huge fan of John, I did the same thing on a intro and solo to one of my Ex-Wives songs right here>

Shorty & Ricky. I have that CD of the instrumental version & the rhythm tracks. John’s rhythm tracks are some of the very best. Don’t know where you would get them. Maybe Jean Hughey is still selling them. |

You tube search Bobby Flores singing it with Dickie Overbey playing steel. Nice!
The reason John Hughey tracks are so good, he just took them off his CD's, minus the steel. They were sold as a separate CD and were done in a studio with top notch, live musicians. I think Jean still sells his products. |

Having been a Ray Price fan for many years, I first heard this song in Dallas. It was being done by Ralph Mooney and Ronnie Dale on vocal. I was surprised that I had not known about this song, and I spent some time searching for Ray's version. I have it on a CD of his hits, as well as a duet with him and co-writer Willie Nelson. I also have a tape of Bobbe Seymour and Jimmy Day doing this song. It has become one of my most favorite songs, and have seen it played by Buddy Emmons, as well as many local steel players around the country. This has to be one of the greatest melodies ever written by Willie and Ray. It certainly has captured my ear, and I love the steel and fiddle breaks in all the recordings. Great song. |

Using the low wound E against the high unwound B - a very tone-full technique that Hughey and the other greats do often I'm finding. |

I have to admit my favorite version of this song is the one by Charlie Shearer with Gary Hogue on pedal steel. The intro is the first time I've heard anyone slide DOWN from notes as an effect, and I think it worked really well. I also like the second verse and tag, added (as I understand) by the producer.

That's how I like to play it, anyway. And I wish Gary Hogue were still around!

Thanks Bill; and this singer is my Ex-Wife Leslie. She wrote every song on "Between Whiskey and Wine" album and every song that this song> https://youtu.be/XC8jdIVuGMg
is on,; Album; and every song is about her life experiences with our relationship....yes all songs are written about me. Me and Tommy Detamore produced both albums; so yes two steel players producing; you will hear a LOT of steel guitar in it's finest form.
I played twin steels on several songs on the albums. I played steel on both albums....but I made Tommy play guitar on a couple songs..ha....
Oh and here's a song I played "Twin Steels" on Intro and second half of solo>; and you can actually see me and Leslie on tour in France on this video...Pretty cool>

Enjoy.

And here's a song that, as my Grandma would say, is "Prit near idenical" to I Just Destroyed The World, played flawlessly by David Hartley:
