Temporary aluminum corners held on with two way tape.
I like aluminum corner look
Maybe buff the end plates, key head, neck an pedal board. You no take a little pride in your ride!!!! |

| Erv I kind agree but if it had real Emmons style casted End plate which would you choose. I think Ross Shaffer Sierra offers either or look. |

| I've played a couple of Ultra guitars. They do have a unique appearance. Both of the ones I played felt great and sounded wonderful. Well engineered guitars. I guess some might feel the corners are necessary. |

GFIs aren't the prettiest, but I haven't seen a bad word written about the mechanics or the sound.

Ian, I hate to say it but my 2000 year Expo D-10 has less cabinet drop than the 82 Franklin I had.
Adding end plates may present a problem of fitting in the stock GFI case. |

| Johnie, that’s already a great looking GFI. I think buffed and shiny end plates look good too, the exception being, GFI guitars. I like them just the way they are. Regarding their cabinet drop...I once did a setup on a new GFI Ultra SD 10, 3 & 4 for a music store in Sevierville, TN. It had virtually very little or no cabinet drop. I contributed part of the reason due to its lower profile. It sounded wonderful through a Nashville 112 (they’re also a Peavey dealer). I took along a Goodrich 120, my Peterson tuner & Asterope cables. Not to get “off topic†but my Emmons PP Black Rock with low profile bolt on changer which is as low as the GFI design hasn’t any cabinet drop. Of course it was completely rebuilt by Lynn Stafford and setup by Mike Cass. I like the lower changer profile on these guitars. |

With the Ultra having a full welded frame with Die Board top, There is no need for the corner pieces for strength, Unless wanted for looks.
If you want them, They do look pretty. I would make sure the guitar goes in the case with proper fit before attaching the corners solid.
How have you planned to do the final attachment Epoxy, Screws or Rivets.
I like the welded frame with no screws or bolts to loosen and change tone. I have a Ultra S12 Keyed and Ultra S12 Keyless in my herd. |

I would not do screws or rivets just Formica glue on the aluminum end plate side.
Actually I won’t attach four aluminum corners unless a customer request them to be installed .
I do think if GFI had made real buffed aluminum casted end plates like Emmons
The GFI would be a more popular steel -
Yesteryear an today!!!
But either way the GFI steels are a incredible An Gene’s legacy continues too this day
An still being manufactured an sold today with a fair share of the new steel sales.
Congratulations too the owner an builder for continued success in sales an the one of best support for parts an repair of any steel company.

The only thing that bugs me about the GFI guitar is the
Aluminum stripe down the middle of the guitar....however great guitars.

That aluminum stripe in the middle of the front and back is near a trade mark for GFI.
It is also a stiffener rib in the design of the extrusion. With the Rib for the pedal stop and the bar for the cross rod bearing holes in the extrusion, It makes a light, strong, and very stable frame without screws and bolts to come loose and cause variables and problems. |

I like the corner plates! Gives them a classier look. Will you have them available for GFI owners to purchase?
Also, I read that GFIs were designed with the center aluminum stripe so they would be easily recognizable on stage from a distance.

I like the corners myself, quite a bit, but it’s fine without it too. I also like the looks of the Expo too.
What I DO NOT like about the front of the GFI is the model name on the key end. I don’t know how hard those plates are to remove, but I’d be wanting it off if I bought a GFI. IF I ordered one, I’d ask that it not be installed.

I have to agree with Jack. I kinda like it without the corner plates...makes it look a little different. 'Bout every steel made now has the same old ho-hum, boring, generic, plain-jane, no design, zero imagination end plates. I used to like those few guitars of decades ago that were different and had some style, like the Marlen, Miller Custom, and ZB. I saw a Sho~Bud once in Bobbe Seymour's shop (a "Pro" something or other) that had grooved endplates that I thought made it look pretty neat.  |
