My first pedal on my Sierra U-12 lowers string 3 & 6 a half tone G# to G. I am not using this pedal very much and considering taking it off. Any idea what I could change this pedal to before I remove it for good?

If you play the Emmons Setup, you might try Raising #1 (1-tone) F# to G# & #2 (½-tone) D# to E. Or, (I haven't tried it in this position, but you might try Raising #1 (½-tone) F# to G, Lowering #2 (½-tone) D# to D and Raising #7 (½-tone) F# to G. I used to make this change with an extra LKL. Hi Len. I have that change on P5, but I like the way Joe Wright uses it on P1. My P1 raises the 7th string F# to G# - a country change that many people put on a knee lever. I've gotten used to it in that position.

Try lowering 6 a whole tone?
Just something to check out before you change things.

Thanks for the feedback.

I already have a knee lever that changes the first string F# to G# and second string
D# to E.

bOb, I like your idea regarding the 7th string F# to G#. I will give that change a try.

Thanks again...

I also raise the first string to G on it, but that change really belongs on a lever. I just don't have an extra lever for it.

Remove it? Why? You don't have to use it if it's on the guitar but you can't use it when it's gone.

As far as what to change it to.... it depends what you already have. I like the G# to F# lower but that works better on a lever. I haven't had the G# to G lower for several years but it was useful when I had it.

I use this change all the time, for minors, on strings 3(or 6) and 5 instead of A+B, replacing the B+C pedal stomp (slide up 2 frets and G#-G instead), and another use I don't see talked about much.

G#-G plus 2nd string D#-D turns the E9 into a G6 tuning across all ten strings, lots of 6th voicings available and some good pentatonic scales also. I have added the D#-D on string 2 change (3 pulls) to my pedal 1 G#-G for ease of use.

I had the G#>G on P0 on my Sierra Session S12U, but moved it RKL2 to allow a smoother move from A>G, as well as smoother moves in general for this change as I don't have to move my foot from the A+B position to use it.
I took the P0 off my axe for the moment, making it a 6x6 at this time.

I am away for the weekend but I will experiment with all suggestion.

AS of now, I have 8&6 on this guitar. I am maxed out on many pulls and lowers but I know there some left on the 7th string. I will also give Steve's suggestion a try before I remove anything.

Joe Wright showed me something that sort of blew my mind. He did one of those country licks that are based on stomping A+B together. real normal stuff. Then he moved his foot over and did the same lick with G+A. Suddenly it sounded like a rock lick - I to IV7 and back. Very cool.

bOb...you were correct about using the first pedal with the A pedal as you would the AB pedals. It gives a whole new voicing.

I was using it playing a 1 chord then using the first pedal with pedal A for the 1/7th. It's usable in that position but much more effective with the AB pedals for the 1 chord then the 4/7th.

Thanks,

Lenny
