I have a Little Walter PF89 tube amp with an extremely loud hum, rendering it unusable.
Are there any tube amp techs in or near North Carolina that could take a look at this amp?
Thanks |

Isn’t Phil in North Carolina? Who better than the man who built it to service it? |

Thanks Roger, I went to Phil’s on Friday.
He biased it (unrelated) and it worked fine when I left, but the hum returned when I got home. |

Check the electrics in your house...could just be you're picking up interference.
Try turning lights off for a start..

Does it him when nothing is plugged in or is it quiet? |

I’ve tried plugging it into four different outlets in three different rooms.
Also, with nothing plugged into the amp, there’s no noise. When anything is plugged into either channel (bright or normal) in either jack, the hum starts.
I’ll try taking to another place to see if that helps.
Thanks for the information. |

Ken, with the amp plugged in and getting power but nothing into the Jack, it’s quiet. |

Sounds like the amp is fine. Try plugging in with a good cable directly from the steel. No effects or volume pedal. See if it hums. If so it’s the cable or the steel guitar |

Thanks Ken, I’ll try that when I get home. |

Have you tried The Amp Shop in Asheville, if he's still in business. He repaired a Steel King for me a few years ago, but was slow getting to it. |

Got home and plugged it in to the same outlet in the same room where the original problem began.
For now there’re no issues with lights on or off, through a pedalboard, and with one of the two same guitars.
Thanks. |

I have not tried him, George.
Our local guy just retired. |

Doesn’t sound like it’s your amp at sounds like a cord or wherever the cord is going into _________________ Been playing all of my life, Lead Guitar, and Pedal Steel, sing Lead and Harmony.. play other Instruments also but I hate to admit to it.. |

Thanks Ron. That the first thing I did but it didn’t work with several cords. A day later, it did. 🤷ðŸ»â€â™‚ï¸ |

I know this an older post but did you find a resolution for the hum in your PF 89? Fighting the same issue with mine. |
