| This isn't a one-off. I don't know how many were made, but they do come up occasionally. According to Gruhn production started in 1940. |

| They made 10 strings to order. The neck is cast because there was too much tension for the regular bakelite necks. If I remember it was as early as the 30’s. I’ve never heard of any association with Eddie Alkire. |

Nonetheless, it is very interesting to see a studio photograph of Eddie Alkire with a 10-string Rickenbacker, presumably before his association with Epiphone. It raises the question of a possible business relationship with Rickenbacker.

I owned one of these years ago. I purchased at a Guitar Center for $800 but the pickup wasn’t working. i sent it to Lollar who rewound it. I didn’t care for the instrument very much. It was very neck-heavy and oddly the nut was cut almost for two different tunings, or at least re-entrant strings on the bottom, if I recall correctly. Looked cool, though.
