Is the pickup on Mike's red Emmons the stock single coil? |

Thanks guys. Just exploring pickup options. Just got a third Emmons pp in my life and it has a George L E-66 on it. Pretty bright pickup and I'm not fond of humbuckers, especially on a pp. My other two pp's had stock single coils. I'm leaning towards a single coil like on my previous pp's. |

Go for the single coil if you can find a good one, ground it properly and you’ll have no problem with him, and your tone will be great. |

Kelcey is right about the ground. The better it's grounded the better it will perform. |

Kelcey, I'm an old hand at single coil hum. First of all, it is very seldom a problem. I had two places I played that it was. I just connected my Electro Harmonix DeBugger and it was quiet as a mouse peeing on a cotton ball. I've been playing a 1982 Zum with original single coils for several years. Singe coil hum is a non-issue as far as I am concerned. I've had Emmons, Zums, and Jerry Wallace single coils. Loved every one of them.
When you say well grounded, are you talking about the grounding wire being connected somewhere different than just the normal two wire hookup to the jack? Maybe to the body of the guitar?

If you want something like the stock Emmons or the TrueTone, Scott Swartz here on the forum makes single coils like that and can wind them to your spec. I just ordered one to try it out. |

Nichols, yes, I am aware of Scott's pickups. Just holding off for a few reviews and "just like" is not necessarily the same thing as one of the old originals. I am seriously considering one. New, not used does have it's appeal. |

George,
On the push pull, simply grounding to the jack is sufficient, as the changer is grounded to the end plate. Some guitars are electrically insulated from the end plate, and require the pickup to be grounded to the changer in some way. |
