I know a lot of folks have already seen this on Facebook, but here’s a swing tune that I wrote a few years ago for twin steels, but never recorded until now. I’m playing my 1950 Fender Dual Pro, and my 1959 Stringmaster. The tune is called “Steel Guitar Strutâ€.

But wait! The kind words are not finished. I just had no time yesterday to sit down and write a post.
Jerry, I love listening and attempting to play along. Really like Louisiana Fairy Tale and My Little Grass Shack. All of your videos are great. Only one problem on my end........there just aren't enough of them. I am sure they take a lot of time to make, but I along with many other guys really do appreciate a well executed video and yours are all top notch.
Keep up the great work and please to take time to give us more!

That was killer. I learned a bit just watching you play.
I was wondering how you made the video and coordinated all the parts. If you had time to explain, the more detail the better. Do you record video and audio to the same program at the same time or are they separate files? Really excellent! |

Paul, to answer your question, There are a lot of ways to do this. My recording method is pretty simple, although including video adds another layer and is a little more complicated. The order of things may vary, but for most of these, I often start with a MIDI scratch track for bass and drums. I make those with iReal Pro, or Band-in-A-Box. I import that into Logic (any audio workstation will do), then start adding guitar or steel tracks, and lastly, replace any MIDI tracks with real instruments (well usually). This last video is still using a sampled bass track, although I programmed all the notes by hand. Getting lazy in my old age. I don't pay a lot of attention to video, I just keep a camera rolling while I'm recording the tracks, then sync the video clips to the final audio track in a video editor after it's finished. Hope that makes sense and is helpful. |

That was fantastic and I had to go back and confirm that this wasn't some old steel guitar standard...kudos on your composition! I've been watching your videos on @steeljazz since I started playing steel guitar a few years back, great job as always!
