New member here. I wanted to share my recent purchase. It's a Zumsteel 'Economy model'. Serial number E091 which dates it to 1980, the 91st PSG built by Bruce Zumsteg if I understand the serial number sequencing correctly. I read where this was the precursor to the Stage-One. It appears to have been in a closet for years. Awaiting new strings as the current ones look to be 20-30 years old. Came with a Goodrich volume pedal of the same circa. Anyone with additional comments on this model, quality and issues to look out for would be appreciated.

congrats on the Zum. looks pretty nice to me. Probably needs oil if it has set for 20+ yrs. I'm sure Mr.Zumsteg would not build anything inferior in any way shape or form. string that bad boy up and enjoy the heck out of it. The volume pedal pot and string might need changed after 20/30 yrs. anyhow, enjoy your new guitar. Very Happy

I bet it’s a good one. You probably need to go to Stageone guitars & get the tuning procedure before you turn the wrong nylon tuners. Also get the proper string gauges.

Thanks for the heads-up Joe on the Goodrich pedal! I had no idea these were functionally built. I believe it is a 1981 PH-1 (with ac power cord). I read that there is a way to convert it for use without a cord. I'll opener up and see what shape it's in. I figured out the tuning, as it came with the original 'manual'. New strings arrived today, using SIT Buddy Emmons 'Sig. Series' E9 Nickel plated.

Please go to the Stageone website & check the string gauges & tuning procedure before you cause yourself alot of grief. I ‘m pretty sure it’s a pull release changer & you will have trouble if you use the wrong gauge individual strings or turn the wrong nylon nuts. If that is just a standard gauge set of strings, one or more of them may not be right for this guitar. Just sayin!

Sorry, in my usual haste I missed the it had a manual part, but still check out those string gauges. Have fun.

They never used a wound sixth until I started building them.

Switching to a wound sixth will require raising the rod in the bellcrank to make it play right.
