I'm looking for the metal part that holds the tuners for a 40's Gibson Console Grande. Treble side, 4 tuners, although I think that either side would work. I plan on converting the 7 string neck to 8 string. Thanks!

I'm guessing it's going to be hard to find. Someone with machine experience (and equipment) could fashion one out of bar stock, mill out the center and paint with crinkle paint from the auto parts store. _________________ LeGrande II, Nash. 112, Fender Twin Tone Master, Session 400, Harlow Dobro, R.Q.Jones Dobro |

It looks like RAM Guitars has something similar machined for their consoles:

Might be larger dimensions though, and you sure don't want to do any visible routing on that rare and beautiful guitar. Not saying that you shouldn't do this mod if you require it, just do your best to make it fully reversible.
I thought about offering a trade for my '51 D8 Console Grande since I'm only using 7 strings on the outside neck anyway but at this point, I've bonded with it. You sure you need 8 strings up there?

Bill-Thanks for the suggestion on the Ram guitar. I sent them an email. Rest assured, I have no intention of doing any routing on that old guitar. If I can't do it so that it could be put back to original, I won't do it.
Before I had this guitar, I had a D8 that I had an E7 tuning on the outside neck. I really need 8 strings for it to lay out like I want.
What 7 string tuning are you using on yours? _________________ "it's not in bad taste, if it's funny." - john waters |

I thought I'd bump this up once before having a piece made. Here's some pictures of the part I need:

John you can use the one you have take them both out find a good machine shop and have them drill the seven string 3 hole flipped around into a four hole to match then they can drill the machine screw thread holes...a new tuner from your choice of supplier ...the one thing in your favour is that there is lots of room for your new ( 4 hole to be drilled )...best ...David.. |

Thanks David. I've been collecting parts for a while, and I have pretty much everything I need now-bridge, nut, even a pickup(I have to get it rewound). I had assumed that I would just have to drill another hole in the 3 tuner pan, but the holes are differently spaced. Your idea to flip it around is one that I hadn't considered, and sounds like a great idea. I'll pull that one and check it out later today. _________________ "it's not in bad taste, if it's funny." - john waters |

I have been a machinist for over fifty years and I can tell you machines shops are not cheap. I have a buddy who can make parts. I used to but am now retired and don't have access to the machines. I did take a three day part time job but they don't let the employees use the machines. _________________ A FATE WORSE THAN LIFE |
