I believe that's Scotty Sanders. I've seen him a lot on the Gaither shows. I chased the credits once and I believe I have it right.

Someone else ID'ed him in a recent thread IIRC.

I defer, as usual, to the more knowledgeable.

Thank you Jerry, now I wonder if you can tell me if this is the same steel player maybe before a hair cut, both lovely playing whether it is the same guy or not.

I cannot say. My guess is that it is. Looks like the same Emmons, same mannerisms. Wonderful playing on Lonesome.

I may be wrong but it does not look like Scott Sanders to me. Scott Sanders played for The Hinsons and was in an awesome band. He was little in stature but a giant player on steel guitar.

Here is a link to a Gene Watson song and Scott Sanders is on steel. The video is 11 years old. Not sure who the steel player is on the original post, whoever it is he did a fantastic job.

Like I said, I defer to the more knowledgeable. It could be I've got this confused with another situation. I can't find my notes I took from an earlier show and since I don't like putting out bad info, I searched around here and found this thread where Steve Hinson ID's the same videos as Scotty Sanders on steel.

It has been a few years since I saw Scotty play. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

I wasn't sure myself Paul. I don't remember seeing Mr. Sanders except in the last few years on the Gaither shows. I was just going on my memory, which is dangerous, and the replies of others.

These are some great videos with great pedal steel which is kind of rare as you don't see a lot of steel on Gaither programs generally.

There is a complement of first rate musicians on those, not the least of which is multi talented Mike Rogers on the flat top there and doing background vocals.

Here is a link to a live concert with The Hinsons. Scott Sanders is the steel player and he got plenty of playing time with them. Listen to how dynamic the 1st note is and pay close attention to the kickoff on the 2nd song. The Hinsons had great bands when they toured.

Paul, that Gene Watson video was posted on youtube 11 years ago, but it was probably filmed in 1989 when the song was released. That could be Scotty 30 years ago.

He definitely has changed. Not meaning anything bad but Gene has picked a bit of weight since then and Scott sure looks different too. However, he definitely is a fantastic steel player.

I say it's not what you play but how you play it, and Scotty certainly knows how to play it. Hope to see and hear more soon.

That's Scotty, with Kelly Back next to him. Both Hinson bandmates. The 2nd generation "Sonny and Gregg."
