Hi all. I’ve seen a few posts from people who made their own seats. I’d like to share the one I just built. I’d also like to thank Jack Stoner (hopefully you read this) for sharing how he built his. I used his ideas for 3” foam and cutting down a walker to make the legs, which worked great. Happy to hear any critiques or answer any questions. Thanks for looking!

Thanks guys! May end up adding a back rest. And the reason I didn’t make the seat cover the entire top is I am thinking of adding a tray for bar and picks.

Glad some of my ideas were useful. Looks good and I like the drink holder. The pedal tray is a neat innovation.

About the only thing different I would have used screws instead of pop rivets.

It looks really nice, can I ask where you buy the metal angle, and what size is it?

Thanks. I bought the aluminum from Penn Elcom. Cut it all by hand with a hacksaw.

If you decide to cover it in tolex, like I did, I would recommend the original weldwood contact cement. I had issues with a low odor non-flammable contact cement and with spray adhesive. Spray adhesive works pretty well for the foam but not for tolex. I would also recommend having a metal blade chop saw or band saw if you are going to do aluminum extrusion. Good luck.

FYI ....... that pedal platform is great, I would love to know how it is constructed. Similar drink holders can be purchased from marinas.... my dad made several similar drink holders that to mount to steel seats, mic stands, ect...

The cup holder folds up which is nice. I bought it on eBay. The drawer I built. Just screwed the sliding pieces into the wood sides and built the drawer itself out of wood. Then I put a layer of wood inside on top of it for the accessories.

Nice work. What kind of latching mechanism do you use on the drawer slide platform?

Very cool! For ver 2.0, you could come up with a way to increase the clearance of the sliding pedal tray, so you can keep the pedals plugged into each other, and slide the whole thing, pedals and all, into the body.

Good idea Andy.
How about an outlet strip along the back side?
Then you could call it the "Electric Chair".

Thanks guys. There is no latch keeping in the drawer but one could easily be added. It’s tight enough to stay put. As for keeping the effects pedals plugged in, it would reduce the storage inside the case. I also don’t use effects a lot of the time so the drawer can be used for other things. When I do it’s only 2 or 3 pedals so it doesn’t take very long to set up. As for a power strip, I run everything off of a dc brick so I only need one extension cord anyway. Thanks for looking!

There's just something heartwarming about a homemade seat with all the trimmings. I love the drink holder too.

Seats from Steel Seat are justifiably popular, i have one that i bought in very lightly used condition. The only issue i've had with it is the screws holding the latches onto the seat body are all loose. I haven't pulled the upholstery off to investigate, but i would guess that the body of the seat is made from MDF or some sort of very inexpensive chipboard, and as a result the screws simply don't stay put where they've been screwed in, so before long they wobble out and if you try to screw them back in, they just spin in place.

Long story short, though i agree with Jack that screws are better than pop rivets, i would make sure that you're anchoring those screws properly.
