Anybody tried an external preamp with the Quilter TB202?

I plugged an Evans ESPA into the input jack of my 202 last night to see what would happen...

Pretty noisy...anybody got any ideas?

TIA

Plug your preamp out into the effects return instead.

Im doing a cheap ART tube MP. The tone goes brighter just a touch,,but the volume kicks about 30%,,and head room is better. I have a TC Elec Spark Booster headed this way. 27db clean boost,,with tone control. I wont play mine without something in front now.
