This is the same as the first steel I bought back in 73. Except I got it for a few hundred
bucks. That one on ebay is way overpriced! |

Strange place to see an Emmons Student Steel (correct?)--the other things this site sells are triathalon outfits and shoes..dancin' shoes! Weird to me also because part of my password on this forum is 'shoe'. |

For that money, the corrosion ought to be cleaned off the machine screws underneath. |

Doesn't that pickup look like a DeArmand?
I thought it might be a student model. but with the four pedals I wasn't sure. |

You're right, it does have the name and chevron of Emmons.
I wonder how old it really is. |

I set one of these up last winter for a guy in Brooklyn. The pickup is an Emmons branded DeArmond. It played and sounded good. The pedalboard and legs were a bit wobbly though. The tone knob is the same as the older push pulls... but it has the badge logo... probably early 70s. The guy that I set it up for wanted an E 9... so we did a modified version... but I think that a 6th tuning of some sort with the 4 and 1 configuration would be cool.... The price is nuts though. |

...that price is a tad optimistic...speaking of which, here's a sales pitch for another guitar currently on ebay, an '89 Emmons Legrand, 4 hole bellcrank model...
Quote: |
This is a model LD10L Lashley Legrande from Emmons. This is a dual neck model with 8 pedals and 6 knee levers. There is also an Emmons volume pedal. These now retail for $8000 new and a fine used one like this will sell in fine music stores for more than $5000. |
...current bid is $1999.
Thanks for bringing up the question on the student model, John...I was wondering the same thing, didn't know Emmons made an 8 string student model. It looked like Emmons underneath and homemade on top.

Well Pat, we both learned somethin' from this thread then. I was thinkin' that it might make a good Western Swing guitar. |

...I'm wondering why you need the key for the case on the student model. I have one of those cases...you can leave it latched and still lift up the top. |

I would be worried about the "...oxidization on the tightening screws..." |

I agree with Jay & Doug on it being overpriced. I had a 10 string Emmons student model and it DID NOT have the wrapround endplates where this one does.
Was this something that was only available on the 8 string guitars. NR[This message was edited by Nick Reed on 21 May 2006 at 11:04 AM.] |
