I don’t know where my LP is so I can confirm but I believe the credit is Tom Morrell.

Agreed. It has been a reference point for me for playing ballads.

I always heard it was Morrell...as a matter of fact,it seems like he was credited on the album cover...

Update:wrong song,wrong album...Morrell is on"Lucky Old Sun"on the"Sound in Your Mind"album...

After listening to"Angel"for the first time in years...

...it sounds like Big Ben Keith to me...I can't believe it-he's one of my favorite steel players...I never noticed it before...it's got to be him!

I AGREE it REALLY sounds like Ben Keith but I can't find any mention of them playing together at any point.

There was one article on line I saw that said Maurice did the Honeysuckle Rose soundtrack, but I just don't think that's him.

Joel, once it struck me that it was Big Ben,I saw several obituaries that mentioned the fact that he had worked with Willie Nelson...

However,I can't find any musician credits for the"HR"soundtrack album...

They also worked together on Neil's"Old Ways"album...
