Does anybody have experience with these amps? Specifically the 1st generation, no parametric eq, I’m guessing seventies. Single stock Yamaha fifteen inch speaker. |

That Paul Rivera interview is specifically about the 2nd generation with parametric EQ, not 1st.
I like the 2nd generation with parametric EQ best. Clean is very nice - surprisingly nice, in fact - and distortion not bad for a solid-state amp. I had one of them years and years ago, picked it up for practically nothing.
I've played the 1st generation. Clean was good, but I thought the distortion was pretty shrill.
3rd generation was weakest, in my view. I didn't even like the clean channel, it didn't sparkle like the first two.
But the first two generations are pretty nice clean machines if you can get them reasonable. I thought the original speakers sounded good - and I think having a good, clean speaker that can handle the power cleanly is important in these. Either way, I strongly suggest you try out before buying - we're talking 40-45 year old amps at this point. |

Thanks for the replies. I had watched that YouTube, Paul, but Dave is right in that the one I was looking at was pre Paul Riviera. I ended up buying it at a bargain. It’s a great sounding amp, And loud and clean as all get go. Reverb is pretty underwhelming, so I’ll be using a reverb pedal. |
