For sale is a piece of history .A time capsule with original sale papers. Sounds excellent and well kept.

Wow! That thing looks like it just left the factory. What's the story on the Japanese script, and is that stamp denoting 1950?

No, that must be some other code. I don't think they even made the Studio Deluxe until 1955 and the black case with the Fender "tail" logo indicates '67-'71. Is the 6925 the serial number (perhaps located under the bridge cover) or a date code?

Extraordinary condition. I keep coming back to drool.

Beautiful guitar, but given the case (and other factors) that looks more like a 1960s / 1970s guitar. You could date the pots to get a better guess (old factory stock means it isn't a definite date, but at least tells you "is no older than" the dates on the pots, assuming its original). I don't know if they did this with the laps, but you could also check under the tuner pan for a pencilled date, which, if there, will be the most accurate way to date it.

I know that Fender Japan made some steel guitars up until the 90s, 2000s from old parts...but I think they were Stringmaster types, if my memory serves.

The red stamp certainly looks like a YY MM DD format to me, and Japan uses that date order. Given the relative modernity of the documentation, is it possible somebody just set the date stamp incorrectly?

The case is a good indicator:

Maybe if I'm parsing that right, this would be around '67-'72?

EDIT: Didn't see Bill's post. Good luck with your sale!

If the warranty card came with the guitar, the E Valencia address and the "Fender Musical Instruments" name would put it from the CBS era, between 1965 and 1985.
