Thanks for sharing your expertise and astute observations, Bill.
It's hard to tell from photographs, but it appears the various Alkire Eharps share the common denominator of having similar string spacing at both the nut and the bridge. My 10-string black Gibson Century (22.5" scale) has significantly narrower string spacing at the nut than the bridge. Would it be a poor candidate for an Eharp?
It's currently strung C6, like a standard 10-string pedal steel. The strings are so close together at the nut end that making the common bar slants are nigh on impossible. I love its sound, but the playability factor in C6 leaves a little something to be desired. A tuning where slants are minimal may be just the ticket to get more enjoyment and utility out of this cool old instrument. |

Thanks for sharing your experiences,
The asymmetrical octave break in the fretboard is really something, design-wise. It doesn't seem to be a notion that caught on with any other steel builders. Do you find it a positive, negative or neutral feature, Bill? _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Website: www.volkmediabooks.com |

Bill
Goodmorning ...very interested in your post regarding serial numbers.
Have never seen any information for Eharp serial numbers.....can you share.
Is 371 then total for all models of Eharp or just the last version ?
Have you found a reference source for Eharp serial numbers?
Thanks
Mike |

Way cool! Congratulations, Bill. No doubt in my mind that instrument was meant to divine its way into your possession. How do you plan on setting it up? How did Mr. Alkire deal with his, in respect to the tuning of its second neck? |
