Hi,
I have a Quilter Micropro HD 12†combo I like a lot for steel and guitar. The “2nd†clean channel is a bit lackluster, though in the EQ dept, and the input wants to see something closer to line level.
I’m thinking of using the Tech 21 Q Strip after my volume pedal, right before the amp for EQ and proper impedance. Has anyone used it with pedal steel? Can it handle the hot pickups?
BTW, I zeroed in on that unit because I could also use it as an acoustic guitar or bass guitar preamp.
Thanks. |

Try it before the volume pedal, coming right out of the guitar.

I spent some time considering this unit a few months ago. And I'm still considering it. If I weren't trying to reduce my gear list and signal chain, it seems like a great solution to tone shaping/enhancement and I like Tech 21 stuff a lot. I use a different unit at the front end of my pedalboard and I like the idea of having a powerful tool like this at my fingertips.
b0b sold one right here.

I use it at the end of my chain before the preamp. It handles my single coil PUs just fine. It's great box, lots of fun with a wide range of sounds available. great build quality. I love it. |

I used the Tech 21 Para Driver in front of my volume pedal and into the channels of my Quilter micropro mach2 combo trying to get a decent tone. It handled the pedal ok but my results were less than stellar. You have the HD so the speaker is different and may be better. I can't get a satisfying tone from mine for steel. Works great for Telecaster. |

Ken Metcalf, I'm curious. Do you put yours after the volume pedal or before? |

I own a Q Strip. It’s a great pedal, and can be quite a utility on anything. My personal preference is to set everything at noon in order to get a unity gain, relatively uncolored signal. I end up cutting the low mids just a hair....to maybe 11 o clock. I boost the high mids a touch....to maybe 1 o clock. |

I run it after a Telonics VP and have used it in place of an amp for practice and a few gigs. _________________ MSA 12 String E9th/B6th Universal.

Thanks. Got one on the way. Has to be better than the old Boss GE-7 eq pedal I'm using right now.
I'll let you know. |
