Selling for the widow of a friend a 1973 Bassman 70 Head and Fender Cabinet with two Fender 15" speakers. I have no ideal how to price this. Could someone give a fair price. It is like new. Been in storage for years. Thanks, J.R. Rose _________________ NOTHING..Sold it all. J.R. Rose |

JR,
You might get a good idea by going to Reverb and putting the amp details into one of their search engines for similar amps that have sold.
I am no expert, but my guesstimate would be somewhere around $500-$700.

Having owned several of this vintage of Fender amps, there are a number of things to consider - are the tubes, transformers, and capacitors in the head tested and functional? Are the speaker cones in the cabinet still in good shape. If you look in a copy of Vintage Guitar magazine you'll see some ads for folks who do amp restoration, and they can give you some tips. It's hard to find good local tube tech. Whatever you do don't take it to a Guitar Center chain store! If this combo is "mint" with no tears in the Tolex (vinyl covering) and/or the speaker cloth, and no discoloration of the metal parts I've seen these go for $1,200 to $1,500, but a "beater" is going to be much much less. Good luck! _________________ MSA Millennium SD-10 #22, Fender Steel King with Eminence EPS-15C speaker, Lehle Mono 90 Volume Pedal, Sarno Black Box, Baby Bloomer, Sarno Earth Drive, EHX Mel 9, EHX Small Stone, Mooer Chorus, Keeley Caverns, Clinesmith bar, Acri picks, Nioma lap steel, Regal resonator, and a whole bunch of other instruments. |

go to ebay and look under the sold auctions for this item and you will get an idea.
the bassman 70 is not really one of the more desirable heads and the two 15 cab...., nobody uses those big cabs much anymore.
heres a bassman 70 on reverb....asking $585. https://reverb.com/p/fender-bassman-70 |

Minty indeed! My first guesstimate was a little high, but Mr. Hatcher was closer. There's a well-used, rusty head alone on Reverb for $600. I use a 1978 Bassman 135 head with a single 15" Fender cab, and when I plug my steel into it the sound has more depth than my Steel King.
Guitarists generally didn't like those heads because they're relatively "clean" and don't break up much because of the transformers. Perfect for the studio and your steel! _________________ MSA Millennium SD-10 #22, Fender Steel King with Eminence EPS-15C speaker, Lehle Mono 90 Volume Pedal, Sarno Black Box, Baby Bloomer, Sarno Earth Drive, EHX Mel 9, EHX Small Stone, Mooer Chorus, Keeley Caverns, Clinesmith bar, Acri picks, Nioma lap steel, Regal resonator, and a whole bunch of other instruments. |

That is a very clean example. You might get that if you find someone who is looking for one. But I think it's a tough sell.
The one Bill referenced for $585 is head-only, and also in the local (Harrisburg PA) Craigslist. It's kinda' beat. And there is yet another Bassman 70, both head and cab, for $750, bit further north in Danville PA. It's an early-80s blackface ultralinear. There was yet another one that sat for months on that same Craigslist - don't know whether they sold it or not. But I've seen Bassman 70s on Craigslist here sit for months.
But yours is so clean it might get some action. Certainly worth a shot, and better to start a little high than too low. I think they're actually pretty good bass amps, unlike most of the earlier Bassmans. But as Bill said - they're sort of in no-man's land as a useful amp. Guitar players mostly don't like 'em, unlike the earlier ones. And they're monsters to gig with for what - 70 RMS Watts - when you can get a good workable 300-800 Watt amp that weighs 20-40 pounds these days.
I picked up a pristine '68 drip-edge Showman head with the matching 1x15" cab a few years ago at a guitar show for less than that. The cab has the original single JBL mounted on a tone ring. The guy walked around for 3 hours hawking that on a dolly, and that is a very desirable head. I only got it for the rare chances I have for my surf band to play outside. And I've only used it a couple of times. But these big piggyback Fender amps do look cool. They were the schiznitz when I was coming up. |

The head is ok, its not the worst one out there, I would agree in the $500 range. The cab, unless they are JBL.s probably the price of two used speakers, +/- 200 at best.
Not long ago I sold my SF Bassman 50 head , had a real hard time getting $400. the B-50 and the B-70 are both 2 x 6L6 amps pretty much the same category. the B-50 I had was real clean as well. _________________ Emmons L-II , Fender Telecasters, B-Benders , Eastman Mandolin ,
