Can anyone advise who is building an 8 string lap with the shorter scale length. I believe George Boards does but not sure of any other modern builders. Thanks

Chris Fouke of Industrialguitar.com just built me a 7 string 22.5” guitar. I’m pretty sure he would also build an 8 string.

I imagine this one is a short scale based on what I can tell of the fretboard dots...

Some assembly required of course!

Also, while he doesn't have any listed now, Ryan Rukavina builds them:

The Morrell 8 strings are similar...22.75" it looks like.

I'm sure there are others, 22.5" is actually not terribly uncommon for lap steels.

Bob Allen @ Melbert Guitars has done some 22.5 scales in the past, and all his work is custom, so a short scale 8 shouldn't be a problem. Sample: https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=308460

Contact Jim Adams who is in Spring TX is a custom maker of resophonic, acoustic, and lap steel guitars. He made me an 8 string reso with a 22 1/2 scale (square neck). He can make
lap steels to your specs. Great craftsman and great guitars. I own and play three of his guitars.

Another reference for Jim Adams. He has built all kinds of experimental axes for me. Great guy and superb work.
