Hey Guys I’m new to the forum and PSG..Been playing Upright Bass over 30 yrs. and Guitar a little longer. I recently bought this guitar off of Reverb and I’ve seen it being sold by a couple of people here on th Forum. Anybody have any insight or knowledge of its history.?

James it would most likely be one of the guys that either had it custom made for them or who ever bought it off that guy; who would know why that guy wanted that color sceme. Because Marlen(owned by late Leonard and Marvin) was a true "CUSTOM" pedal steel biz as they would build a Marlen for a customer; just like they dreamed it being. So that's how this one was built; and like you posted in 1976; but I would have to see/read the serial number underneath to varify?? and it/if it being from '76; that mechanism would be the "pull-release" system and extremely awesome sounding and once set up and tuned up properly; can play very consistently well.

Mr Stadtler built a bunch of those in 1976 for the bi centennial.. I have seen probably a dozen over the decades.. I have one that I play every day matter of fact, but mine was refinished to natural long ago. You can still see red white and blue under certain screws.
Mine was also 3 and 3 originally. but I added a pedal and knee lever.. Mine has been in tune perfectly for 6 years, and in 6 years has NEVER broken a single string believe it or not.. I changed the strings in 2013, and they are all still on the guitar and still in tune with the meter from that original string change... yes they are very good guitars!... bob

Yep ricky, They are SO cool looking!.. wish mine was never refinished, but hey, I got it REAL cheap!.. it has been a wonderful guitar.. Plays so soft and light, its crazy.
First thing I found out about these old Pull release marlens was a simple fact that I had always heard about them.. They are a PAIN to set up, and that is certainly true .
I sweat blood for several days, changing the copedent around totally, adding levers and pedals, and getting it 100% dialed in. However the second part of that equation was also true.. Once set up, and locked down, they NEVER change.. Mine has been perfect and hasn't had to be touched for 6 years... They are very solid, stable, great playing, great sounding guitars!... bob

I have had a couple of these guitars..on reverb....yours looks like one of mine.
I bought it from a guy in NC. Thats all the history I have.

| I remember dad winding those red pick ups. Probably using a Day set up. That seemed to be more used with the Marlens. It's a pull release. The earliest all pull I have seen is from 1978. If anyone has an earlier all pull it would be cool to know. Hope you enjoy it. |
