This is horrible news....my condolences first to Michelle , then to the cast of Larry's Country Diner , and lastly to everyone whoever came to town with a guitar and a dream and needed an example of greatness , Jimmy Capps was the yardstick by which the rest of us are measured . He set the bar extremely high.....often imitated but never equalled , he was without a doubt a fine man , a Christian , and an inspiration to us dreamers . Having met him in 1968 , he got a tone out of a 335 like no one ever did.....I asked him what he did to the guitar to get that tone and he said it was stock......of course we all know it's in the hands . He had the hands . This one hurts .

Jimmy was a hero, and a dear friend. The first time we worked together, I was 19, and he graciously accepted me as "one of their own." We worked together so many times, laughed together, I marveled at his ability and wisdom. I remember asking him early on, "How do you just know all those songs without any hesitation?" He responded, "How long have you been playing?" "A couple years, I guess." He grinned at me and said, "You'll know the answer after YOU have 30 years under your belt."

I was honored to be in the staff band at his 2014 Induction to the Musician's Hall of Fame. After rehearsal, I pulled him aside and told him how proud I was to be able to be there for him, with him, how our friendship of 40 years had meant so much to me, and I reminded him of that question I had asked him 40 years prior and how he had responded. Tears welled up in both our eyes and we laughed/cried together in a great bear hug.

Cecil... Cees... man, this hurts so bad. I will miss you terribly. We'll catch up eventually. Godspeed, brother.

Really sorry to hear about this. He was the master of simplicity and taste…
He was the player I would subtly - or not so subtly - mention whenever I had the opportunity to talk with my overplaying guitar playing friends.
We could all learn from him, no matter what instrument we play.
