Has anyone directly A/B'd the ToneDexter against the Fishman JD Aura for reso?

I like the idea of the TD, since I'm a multinstrumentalist onstage often (reso, mando, guitar).....but I don't really want to take a step back from how awesome the JD sounds and works, just for the sake of versatility.

Any thoughts, comparing the two?

Thanks!

Jim

I have and ultimately went to ToneDexter. I was using the fishman with a redeye boost for the dobro and the redeye with a boss eq for the mandolin and then a tuner. The Tonedexter was very appealing since it did all that in one unit and could be extended to guitar. I recorded with a KSM 32 and I think it sounds very authentic. Compared to the fishman I think there are less low and low mids in the Dexter but that was really what the mic sounded like so I wonder if they are somewhat boosted on the fishman. Maybe just the way I recorded or the guitars themselves, meredith and a beard MA6. The DT is definite less prone to feedback than the fishman. I frequently found I needed to roll back the blend on the fishman in loud situations like country bands and that defeats the purpose. As much as I like the JD pedal and the redeye I now prefer the tonedexter. They can sound slightly different but for things like a bluegrass band or acoustic situation I can still use a mic...although I do tend use the tone dexter anyway, but for those loud country and rock situations it sounds great and I'm inclined to think it is better than the fishman. If you can swing it get one and AB them yourself they seem to available at sweetwater now and I'm guessing you could return it if you didn't like it.

David: “redeye boost” - I’m guessing you are referring to a Red-Eye preamp?

I had the Fishman/JD Aura for 10 years, and now use the Tonedexter with the Fishman Nashville pickup.
I agree with David Devlin on his description of the difference in the two units.
