Thank you Steven, and thank you Rogers for the kind words! I'm really happy that the imagery is connecting with you guys. I'm really trying to capture the texture of club life, and a working musician's life in the Valley in those days.

I lived just down the street from the Palimino off Lankershim until 1978. Lots of fond memories there. That pic of the cars going in the parking lot and the people standing in line looks just like the place. I remember when Hag's place was a little further down the street too. Great memories. |

Good luck with your Palomino, Stephan...looks great and I'm really looking forward to getting a copy - so I'm in too. I hope you're able to meet your goal.
I got a kick out of Mike Judge a couple of years ago when he had the animated Tales From the Tour Bus on Cinemax (I think)- Waylon, Jones, Paycheck, etc. Pretty cool series. I think your story will be cool too - I hope we get more than one volume...like the graphics a lot.

You just made my whole day. Two of my favorite things are noir and pedal steel. Dude, I am so in. Just contributed. Must have both the novel and a poster. (Is there any way to specify which poster? I'd choose "Palomino Club" if I had the choice.)
L.A. native here and old enough to have gone to the Palomino many times during that same time period (I was in college in those days.) Oh, how I miss the Palomino!

Hey all.
Thank you Steven and Rick!!
To answer various questions:
-At the end of the campaign, which is 5/13, if the goal has been reached, backers will be contacted for their shipping info. It will also give you the list of prints so you can make your choice.
Kristen, "neo-noir" means that it's the same themes as a noir story, but that it's taking place in a new kind of setting, not classic trenchcoats and fedoras, if you know what I mean.
Thank you again! |

I'm not sure how but you've hit on all my favorite themes with old school country, LA noir, steel guitars and detectives. I haven't bought a graphic novel in years but for this... you sir are BACKED! Looking forward to a copy and print when the campaign is fulfilled!

Keep it up, this is great, I love the Pinto in the last drawing posted and the duel exhaust coming out of that Chevy pickup! _________________ Regards, Craig

Hey all,
As the kickstarter campaign for the PALOMINO graphic novel enters its last stretch, I wanted to thank all of you. The support that this project has received from the steel community means a lot to me!
So as we're nearing the end, I wanted to share with you the cover, that was just unveiled today. Many people here had asked me if we could get steel guitar-centric art prints, and as it turns out, well a steel guitar is featured on the cover. So here's the final cover:
Of course, the image (without the text) will be also available as an art print through the Kickstarter. Here's what that looks like:
Lastly, I will also let it be known that the original ink drawing for this piece is also available through the Kickstarter. Here's picture of it here on my drawing table:
And lastly, here' a fun link to a timelapse video of my inking and color process on this piece. It's fun to watch! https://youtu.be/gP-Hsbe1crA
That's about it! For more info about all this, the link to the campaign is here: http://kck.st/3cfOkTu
Thank you again for making me feel so welcome here!
Best--

That was great Stephan, you write as well as you draw. I bought the Iron Giant for my kids many years ago and really liked it.
As a young kid, I went to school in West Texas from New Jersey, not that different from France to California besides the language, but probably an similar experience, so I can relate to your story, keep it going!
Your artwork is so spot on and I agree you can hear the music without the notes. I hope this really does well, I'm looking forward to it. _________________ Regards, Craig

Unfortunately, looks like I missed this. Will the graphic novel be available to buy outside of the kickstarter campaign once it is published? |
