The metal plates look as though they could be an aftermarket type of 'crack control' as the SB's were prone to developing the common wood split behind the changers.

Michael is Correct...Sho~bud did suffer and eventual "stress crack" in that very small and thin wood right behind changer. Old Marlen's suffered the same....and so a very nice chrome plate became almost standard for the only thing that could hide it....and the guitar NEVER suffered any probs because of that particular crack.

Rick didn’t Loyd Green change his LDG FROM THE BARREL SET UP TOO NYLONS At the changer end similar to this set up. Or did he also change bell cranks too? |

Johnie; not sure when Lloyds LDG was changed to nylon tuning; but pullers/rollers w/set screw are same as original you can see from pic below; and only the 4th and 5th string changer fingers had one extra raise hole welded on; to raise those fingers twice with nylon tuning. They changed his knee levers to more of an adjustable lever; so he could have them exactly where he wanted them.

I would say the extra plates are for the adjustable return springs a great idea |

No Joe; the adjustable return springs are adjustable with the phillips screws you see at endplate under the hole for nylon tuners on rods. The plates they are talking about are on top of the cabinet, right behind the tailpiece that holds the axle/changer; and they are there ONLY for cosmetics.

Not to take away from the great steel for sale in this listing, but I must have its twin brother. Pro-III Custom, black, serial number 6137. Sat in somebody’s closet for decades until the widow sold it to a music store who then sold it to me.
For the last 20 years I used push-pulls but this Sho-Bud is what I use for gigging now. It sounds and plays great.
The steel listed in this For-Sale thread looks great. |

My favorite of the Sho-Bud Pro series. Double raise single lower. I prefer wood necks but thats one sweet guitar. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

Sho-bud is not the only guitar that cracked behind the changer, there is a better fix for this than plates. |
