Its good to know there are people keeping the old steel guitar pieces alive in the islands. Nice work. And I was hoping to get over to Oahu for the Pacific Festival of the Arts in June. Covid 19 put the Kybosh on that plan. Maybe next year. _________________ Don't go in the water after lunch. You'll get a cramp and drown. - Mother. |

Aloha Dave,
Hopefully, tourism will get back to normal next year and you'll be able return to the islands.
Thanks Doug. We call that technique the violin FX. No volume pedal, just use the pinky on the tone control as you said. Good to hear from you.
Aloha Kirk,
Thanks Bruddah, hope you all safe there. I lived on the Big Island in Hilo when I was young. Returned to Oahu in 1970. Take care. Mahalo! |

Thanks for the pic Wally.
Those were fun times at the golf club!
Aloha Bill and Jeanie,
Hope you both are doing well. See you back in the islands soon! |

That was wonderful Derrick! So nahenahe. What tuning are you using?
(BTW, I think you meant to say volume pot when referring to the violining effect. Unless it's a technique I haven't discovered.) |

Aloha Chuck,
Oops, yes, you're right.
Doing the swells with the VOLUME POT KNOB, but make sure too turn the tone control up. You want it on the bright side so the FX's will be more prominent.
The tuning I'm using is: E C# G# E D B
(high to low) |

Aloha Doug,
Here's the best example I could find of this, and why we call it the violin FX.
https://youtu.be/PEUOu9d8tjk
Here's the Boo Wah FX as demonstrated by Rick Alexander. A foot volume pedal is used, and the bar is bounced off the strings.

Very nice Derrick!
I enjoy how you have very traditional phrasing. Lots of listening to the masters I assume.
Enjoyed it very much. _________________ Steve Marinak |
