Just curious on this tune which I'm starting to work out:

There's a little sound effect that sounds like a IIm chord on the first note of the second bar, basically the sound right before the harmonic diminished run. It sounds like a chord strum of something, but with a ton of reverb. Anyone know what it was? Santo brushing the strings on a different neck maybe?
Edit S&J, not S&T, oops! _________________ Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling

To me, it sounds like it's happening at the mixing desk. There are liberal amounts of reverb on the steel already, but you can hear a boost in volume & reverb noise as well during those parts - including the harmonic run.
You could get a similar effect live by using a reverb pedal that has an expression pedal function. Probably won't sound exactly the same. |

Sounds to me like an overdubbed strum with somewhat more than subtle effects added. It seems to be still ringing when Santo starts that harmonic run, so I'm guessing a guitar strum. _________________ David K |

Thanks guys...I was trying to figure it out (how to do it live) and getting nowhere. But it makes sense, their version of A Thousand Miles Away, for instance, has very obvious overdubs so they were certainly not averse to making use of multitracking.
I'm pretty sure the harmonic run is also a separate track because it has some strong reverb on it too. _________________ Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling

Aloha Nic,
I did that on my recording I just did about a few weeks back. I just brushed the top strings 1 to 4 with my pinky, then go to the 1st string to hit the chimes.
Takes a lot of practice to get it, and you'd have to have the tone set on the bright side to hear it.
J & S used a lot of reverb on it, way more than I wanted to put on mine. |

I usually reach down and brush that chord right by the bridge, then quickly up to catch the Palm harmonic |
