An email is circulating to musicians in Western Canada requesting a solo musician to play at a small wedding. It is an “advance payment fraud†scam. The goal of which is to get a check overpayment into the musician’s hand. All they want is the money you “refund†them for the overpayment.
This is the message:

Do you have availability to handle our wedding with my fiancee REBECCA
DANNY at a private home in Victoria BC Canada [your town] on Oct 30th , 2020 .
We want a Wedding [musician] to Entertain us in the presence of our
family and friends.
Please let me know if you are available and how much do you
charge?
Please Stay Safe , Because of Corona-virus Pandemic and I strongly
believe everything will be alright soon .

It works like this,
He will tell you that his friend will send you a check for say, $150. The check will arrive but it will be for a larger amount, say $750. Then, to save everybody trouble, he’ll ask you to deposit the cheque anyway and just refund the difference by Western Union. The check then bounces, and he keeps your “refundâ€. _________________ Current Tunings:
