I have a Fender Steel King amp and would
like to try a Eminence PF 400 speaker in it.
I would be taking a factory 4 ohm speaker
out and putting in a 8 ohm in. Is this not a
good thing to be doing or will it all work ok
and still have plenty of power or just simply,
don't do it!
Would love some feedback

Replacing a 4 ohm speaker with an 8 ohm unit may result in a slight loss of power but due to the efficiency of the PF-400, volume loss should be slight if noticeable at all (however, you may notice another difference in your amp the first time that you lift it!)

No problem. You can run two of them if you desire. At one time I had a 4 ohm JBL in one cabinet of my Stereo Steel and a matching 8 ohm in the other cabinet. The 8 ohm had slightly less volume but it was no problem. I just turned up the volume slightly more on the 8 ohm.
I couldn't tell any difference in the tone.

I shutter to even think about the shipping cost of the PF to Australia. These are very heavy speakers.

The original speaker in the Steel King is not a exactly flyweight, but the PF is even heavier. It would be interesting to hear a Telonics 15 or an EPS 15C in that amp.

Well the EPS 15 C was my other option.
It is obviously lighter and it is $330 Australian compared to $499 Australian
for the PF 400. It is 4 ohm and it has the aluminium dust cap which I prefer.
Would love to hear some feedback from anyone that has put the PF 400 speaker into any amp and their thoughts

Did you see the post that Eminence has been selling the EPS 15C for $105.00, inc. shipping in the USA. If they don't want to ship to Australia, maybe someone can buy one here and ship to you. I seriously doubt there would be much difference in the tone between it and the PF 400.

Its no problem at all.

As long as you are going up in impedance and not down.
Amp to speaker. You wont really notice much diference in volume I wouldnt worry about it

Of course you can run an 8 ohm off a 4 ohm load. It just won't have the bark, bite and attack of the 4 ohm. If that matters to you. And if cranking the amp to get there it might be less clean than the 4 ohm setup.
