It looks like the mod is designed for the newer EB pedals with the jacks in front. I just wrote to the company asking whether it can be done to the pedals with the jacks on the side.

I've seen that mod advertised several different places.Piqued my interest, since I use EB VP Jr's.A little pricey, but I'd like to see a review from a steel player who's used the Zep mod.

I just heard back from the company. The mod is not available for the volume pedals with the jacks on the side.

I suggested that they make the mod available for us.

It seems like a pointless mod unless you're looking for more distortion, and I don't know many steelers looking for that. I really don't understand why so many steelers have a problem with their volume pedal? Muttering

The early models with the side mounted jacks were simple pot pedals with no PC boards to mod.

Just some random thoughts.............

I think that Mike was just alerting us to a new "gadget" that we may not have known about, just as an FYI.
He did the footwork on seeing if the mod was available for the side mounted pedals so we'd know before someone else asked.
No harm in that.

For the cost of a VP Jr, plus the cost of the mod, you may be knocking on the door of an active VP already made by someone else.
(Of course, if you already have a VP Jr the cost is zero for the passive part of the equation.)

I'm sort of with Donny on this one.
If you have a passive VP then the value of the pot can make a difference.
Put a 500K or a 1 Meg pot in your passive volume pedal, especially if you don't use a buffer of some sort.
And/or use a buffer of some sort.
Then............play.

Why do steelers (and other musicians) have a problem with their volume pedals? The same reason that they have a problem with their cords. ;>))
And other stuff also.
Some people can hear a difference, others can't.
But one thing that most of us CAN tell, and that is if someone can actually play or not.

While I admittedly am into this technical stuff (maybe because of my engineering background), I sort of view these technical matters as side issues.
At the end of the day the primary focus is on being able to play and create, and not to chase which brand of cord preserves more high end.

YMMV.

Never was a fan of those pedals. Tried one once and was happy I never dropped the money on one
