Thanks Jim. I noticed the Emmons guitar website doesn't even have a link to Buddy's site. But the quotes and things they have seem to imply his endorsement - and his site has a link to them...
Hard to figure out who is married to who in the steel business. |

Brett - the web page shows two copedants, therefore I would assume the obvious, D10 ...

The Zum is a D-10.
But I do recall a couple singles along the way.
A Carter single 12 E9.
A Sierra single 12 C6.
So, I can imagine him with a single neck, just in multiples.
I just couldn't imagine a student guitar. Until I saw this:

I think this will be wonderful. Buddy is a master just like JOhn Hughy and Hal Rug was why? not play what they want to polay. I have played Zum since 1981. With my third guitar was a beginner then in 1992 I went to a 12 string Universal Zum. Cause of the price and it easier to carry. Then in 2001 I went to a Double 10 Zum. I love and like to play them cause they have the softest pedal touch of any guitar I Played. Now maybe I can get more of them good Buddy licks on the one i got. Congratulations on your new steel Buddy I hope you have as much fun as seriousnously as some people play YOur friend Charley

Seemingly, it doesn't make a difference. He sounds like "Buddy" no matter which guitar he chooses to use.

I don't know about Buddy's association or disassociation with the Emmons Guitar Co., but I wouldn't be bit surprised if he still has one or two Emmons Guitars in his closet.???

I'm just wonderin' how many he DOES have now. 18,20,?  If he gets anymore,he'll have to move into the governor's mansion. However,no matter what he plays,he still sounds like Buddy!!! (ain't NUTHIN' wrong wit dat!!)

| Interesting point, Ernie, and I agree. In fact, most of us sound like ourselves in spite of what guitar we play, and so I ask all of you out there, at the risk of hijacking this thread, what is it we are searching for, when we buy all this musical equipment, and then we all just end up sounding like ourselves in the end anyway? |

I do this for a living, yet I've squandered thousands on extra guitars, steels, amps just for the joy of it - it really makes no sense, and one of these days I'll get a tax audit because of the way I've eliminated any real profit with all this indulgence .
If the Best Player On The Planet still gets a kick from a new steel (and that grin would seem to indicate that he does), then who can argue with that?

It can also be interesting to have a guitar with a different set-up on it to experiment with a bit more.
When I saw Buddy Emmons play at the st. louis show a few years back he was playing an Emmons guitar, and since then I've seen photos of him with a new JCH (D 10/12 from what I remember)...
While we sound like ourselves on any instrument, I have to respect the fact that people with more skill than I can find different things in the instrument than I can tonewise and otherwise. |
