Here is what happened related to the pictures. Greg Jones and Brad Gum had flown in from Virginia to the convention. He was going to work in the Mullen booth and Del asked him to set up some steels for display. What he didn't know was that Dixie and I had spent a lot of time on the phone to get the guitar built and bring it to the convention. Del says set that one up first. When Greg opened the case he was looking at S-11, then Dixie stepped around him and handed him a certificate with his name and serial number built specifically for him.
All these pictures were taken before the shows began.
The second picture is Dixie, Del and Greg with a huge smile on his face.
The 3rd picture of course is Tom Brumley, he had just stopped by and saw the guitar. He says, " Is that my guitar?" Dixie replied " No, that is Greg's guitar." S-11 set up just like Tom played. After the convention Greg and Brad flew back to Virginia and I took the new guitar back to Ohio with me. It was a month before I got to deliver it to him in Virginia at the Old Dominion Opry where he spent two years as staff steel guitar player.
A lot of good memories from the many trips we made to the convention in St Louis. Great days and a lot of fun, where else could you see all in one place the caliber of players we were entertained by. It started on Thursday night and ended on Sunday afternoon.

I just got off the phone with Greg, those pictures were from 1997 and still has that guitar, plus the D-10 he bought some time earlier at the convention. Both guitars still look like new. He is still doing the ZB guitars but really slowed down, working full time, still playing, doesn't leave a lot of time for shop work. |
