I have the front neck of my '48 Dual Pro strung up with Leon McAuliffe's E13. I like it, but using the suggested gauges on John Ely's site, I find bottom 3 strings a little loose......especially the E
Curious what gauges/strings you're using......and if you've found a stock set that works. I had to order singles.
Ely's suggestions:
E13 Tuning
E - .013 to .015
C# - .016 to .018
B - .017 to .019
G# - .024* to .026*
F# - .024w to .026w
D - .032w to .036w
G# - .042w to .046w
E - .054w to .058w |

What is the scale length? Shorter scale lengths require larger gauges. When using Elys suggestions, I use the smallest gauge recommended for my long scale guitars, and the largest suggestion for my short scale. |

My Remington is 24 1/4" scale length and I cheat a bit. If I were to order strings by guage they tend to be pricey, and there is difficulty getting purpose built sets. As one of our members here in the UK buys SIT strings in bulk, I can get a set of 10 E9 strings from him cheaper than I can get 8 in a store. So SIT strings it is. They tend to be a little bit lighter but sound nice. I have a couple left over but who is counting.
I use the same set on my National which is 23" scale length. _________________ MSA Classic 12 string Universal, Remington Steelmaster D8, National D8 Console x 2, George Boards Lap Steel, National New Yorker. |
