Electro-Harmonix has a stomp box called the Key 9 that is a piano effect box.

I have a Key9. It's pretty cool - adds a lot of variety to your sound on stage. I'm not using it anymore because I've retired from performing and have a real keyboard at home. I haven't listed it for sale in the classifieds yet. If you're interested in buying it, PM me.

The Key 9 has keyboard simulations, but not piano. The organ/Leslie effect can be dialed in pretty close.

What Dennis said. I don't know any of those units that can simulate acoustic piano.

About the only way I know of is through some sort of midi rig.

The cigarette pack size Sonuus monophonic guitar-to-midi converter in the link above, along with some sort of midi module, software etc. will let you get a good piano sound, but it's purely monophonic, read one note at a time.

I have one of these and an old Alesis midi module that I use sometimes with guitar or steel. Might look around for one of these older stand alone modules. [Piano sounds are dependent on the synth, midi sound module or software you're using of course.]

I'm able to stumble through Behind Closed Doors if I'm really careful and it's not too fast. The sound itself is pretty authentic but it can be tedious.... and forget any fast polyphonic or Jerry Lee type stuff.

It's the 2 pcs. on the right end, with the red cable and the Alesis under it....the other stuff is for another thing.

Maybe one of the Roland guitar synths would be the best unit if you could use 2 of the pickups or just choose six strings to cover.

I'm not recommending this, plus they are not made any more, but the old Steel Rider came with a midi pickup. You hooked up the thing to a synthesizer and voila. a piano or any other instrument that was programmed into the synthesizer. Mine had tracking problems.

FWIW, even though it was a piano sound, it was next to impossible to play piano licks. I had the same issue with a dobro simulator. The strings and pedals on a steel are just not layed out like another instrument. So although you may be able to duplicate the sound doesn't mean you will be able to duplicate licks. Just my two cents worth. I finally decided I wanted my steel to sound like a steel 100% of the time and quit experimenting with sound altering gadgets.

My girlfriend, who has a good ear and has been the church piano player for 60 years, hates speed picking with no melody to speak of. She said it doesn't even sound like a steel. I thought about it and decided she is right. I quit working on speed picking. I still like to hear others do it at steel shows. To quote Jimmy Day: "I wish I could pick like that....but I wouldn't"

This is about the best example I've heard. Don Pawlak playing with Dale Watson. Song starts at 1:35 and you can see him switch back to the wood bar in the last verse. Great performance!

There's a video floating around with Don Pawlak with Dale Watson doing a pretty believable Jerry Lee style break. (See David Gertschen's post above). I can cop some of it using a cut off drum stick. It only works in the very high frets, 22 to 24, so the keys are limited. You have to use that style piano phrasing. I can have people looking around for the piano.

This is from another thread here: https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=329876&highlight=don+pawlak about Don Pawlak and his wooden bar piano technique. I dunno if it's still available. I don't FB, so I can't run it.

I think there are still some of the IVL Steel Rider midi rigs out there as George mentioned. That's pretty involved and takes a lot of equipment though. Perhaps some of those that still use it can offer some info.
