I had this piece of wood given to me. It wasn't the best looking piece. (very plain) I decided it would be a good one to try to blend some colors to make a sunburst. It is a cranberry sunburst. Sides are cranberry as well as the head and bottom. I weighed it today and it's 3 pounds 2 ounces. Butternut is also known as White Walnut and has an open grain similar to other walnuts. I used aged creme pearloid pickguard material for the fret board, abalone dots and Pearloid Hipshot mini tuners. Pup is Lace, pots are Dunlops. Not wired up just yet but sounds good unplugged.

Butternut is nice wood--they used to use it on a lot of dulcimers down this way. Great looking guitar, Bill! The burst is very nice.

I really like this example - simple, classic lap steel lines, very functional, doesn't try to be a "little guitar" with 2 humbuckers and an adjustable bridge, etc.

Very nice work Bill. The burst came out beautifully and I really like what you did on the bridge.
Pretty cool that you can do stellar work in wood and metal.

The place where I work has a habit of throwing out good stuff! I repurposed something they were getting rid of. I needed a new stand for "Butternut" and if it works as planned I will post some pictures of it. It is however more expensive than buying a Mandolin stand, but for me, I couldn't beat the price of the materials I used. Everything I used I found in the trash..........NICE!

| Ditto all above admiration Bill. You have a good feel for classic design and balanced lines. To cap it off, you have taken “discards†to a better place. I really like that effort you have maximized. Is the finish laquer? Or poly?. Expertly done. Am certain it will sound as good as its looks when wired up and amped up. Steady on, Bill. |

Thanks Michael and Jon. Not sure I want to de-value the guitar by my sub-standard playing and in addition to that, I have no clue as to recording or posting a sound clip. To answer your question Jon, it has 20 coats of hand rubber Minwax Poly on it. All hardware is homemade and 6061 aluminum. I thought I would try a wider string spacing at the bridge. This one is .450. My plan is to wire it up tonight.
